Mentwell
Terms of Use
Version 2026-10-07
The short version
- The app helps you notice and name your feelings. It is not a doctor, a therapist or an emergency service.
- Nobody watches the app all the time, so it is not an emergency service. Your notes are checked for some words that might mean you are not safe, and Mentwell's safeguarding team may then contact your school. If you are worried about yourself or someone else, talk to a trusted adult or contact Childline (0800 1111, free, 24 hours) or text SHOUT to 85258. In an emergency, call 999.
- If you are under 13, a parent or carer needs to say it is OK.
- Please be kind: don't write other people's names or anything hurtful.
- If you make an account, keep your personal code and password safe and do not share them.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Mentwell CIC ("Mentwell", "we", "us"). By using the 5 Minute Feelings app or website you agree to them, and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we use information. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Who can use the app
The app is for young people aged 8 and over. If you are under 13, you must have a parent or carer's permission before you use it, and you will be asked to confirm this.
What the app is, and what it is not
- The app is a self-reflection tool: it helps you notice, name and keep track of your feelings.
- It is not medical advice, a diagnosis or treatment, and it does not replace help from a doctor, counsellor or other professional.
- It is not an emergency or crisis service. Nobody watches the app all the time, so we cannot promise to see or answer a check-in. Notes are checked for some words that might mean you are not safe, and Mentwell's safeguarding team may then contact your school. If you are worried about yourself or someone else, talk to a trusted adult or contact Childline (0800 1111, free, 24 hours) or text SHOUT to 85258. In an emergency, call 999.
- Information and descriptions of feelings in the app are for general guidance only.
Using the app well
If someone misuses the app, we may block their access.
- Don't write anyone's full name or details that could identify another person in your notes.
- Don't write anything abusive, threatening or illegal.
- Don't try to break, overload or get around the app's security, or use it for anything it was not made for.
Your account (optional)
You can use the app without an account. If you make one, choose a username that is not your real name, and keep your personal code and your password safe. Do not share them with anyone: whoever has them can sign in as you. We cannot see your password or your code, so if you lose both, we cannot get them back for you. Mentwell can pause or delete an account, or give you a temporary password if you ask.
Your check-ins
What you write belongs to you. You allow us to store it and to use it, without your name, as described in our Privacy Policy. You can delete it at any time in the app, except safeguarding records, which Mentwell deletes.
Your notes are checked for words that might mean you are not safe. If one is found, Mentwell's safeguarding team can see that note (with your school code, age group, gender and postcode area, but not your name) and may contact your school.
Your check-ins are saved on your phone first. If you clear your browser data, change phone or uninstall the app before they have been sent to us, they can be lost, and we cannot get them back for you.
The website and bookings
Asking to book a session through the website is a request. A booking is only confirmed when we confirm it to you. Any separate agreement for sessions, training or other services we provide will apply to those services.
Changes and availability
We work to keep the app and website available and working well, but we cannot promise they will always be available or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop parts of them, for example to improve them or keep them secure. If we change these terms in a way that matters, the app will ask you to agree to the new version.
Our responsibility to you
We provide the app and website with reasonable care and skill. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for decisions you make based on the app, or for losses we could not reasonably have expected.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing affects your legal rights.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
